Post Conference I

I hardly know where to start. It was a whirlwind 5-6 hours with a lot to take in, much of it useful. I’ll be filtering elements of what I learned through various posts over the next few days/hours as we reflect on them here at Catalyst. In terms of early conclusions, however, there seem to be a few key ones:

First, even though we appear to be figuring things out relatively well in terms of blogging, it was great validation to go to a conference and find that, e.g., our assumptions about keeping comments turned on, adding RSS buttons, and posting in a conversational manner were “correct.”

Second, people - even the blogeratti like Robert Scobel and Mike Kaltschnee, aka Mr. Hacking Netflix - were very approachable and enthusiastic.

Third, we have to pay even more attention to the folks at PubSub and Technorati.

Fourth, I didn’t feel like an idiot not lugging my laptop up there, because the place had no wireless access - so even the bloggers had to wait to post/write via computer, and there were far more pens and pads than electronic alternatives.

Fifth, there didn’t seem to be a single other user-centered design firm/blogger/blogger wannabe present. Yet, clearly, there are user interface blogs. Guess we just got lucky.
