Comments On, Comments Off

A ways back, even before we launched CoFactors, we were still posting comments. I linked to Jay Small’s blog when talking about the shift in newspaper formats, in the context of discussing screen size/viewport size.

Jay was kind enough to write back, and then we deleted the comment. Which as we realized was a silly thing to do. We weren’t sure at first of all the rules - still aren’t, as this diary attests. But as we have participated in the blogspace more and more since that time, it’s clear you leave them on. It’s part of the whole point.

We’re pleased that such a megalith as HP has the same hesitation and the same impulse to apologize. So, Mr. Small - we apologize; in fact, we didn’t really even realize we’d lost the comment when we turned the function off and then on again…not that that’s an excuse.

Tip of the day: keep the comments on, and have a thick skin (paraphrasing Scobel’s rules).

Not to worry. No harm done, no insult taken. A lot of bloggers would not have thought to say any more about it, so thanks.
