Congratulations iVillage!
This post is long overdue… but better late than never!
iVillage, a long-standing Catalyst client, has been acquired by NBC Universal for $600 Million in cash. It’s a fantastic opportunity for iVillage (and for NBC) — an end of sorts and a new beginning for a company that has struggled through Webs 1.0 and 2.0, booms and busts, only to emerge as one of the very few profitable and legitimate online content brands. We at Catalyst are extremely proud to have been a part of the iVillage story and we send our hearty congratulations to all our friends there.
Some of you may remember that About.com, another Catalyst client, was bought by the New York Times for $410 Million shortly after launching their redesign. We’re not going to be the ones to mention it, but some might say that a comprehensive Catalyst redesign is a good thing for companies looking to be acquired for hundreds of millions of dollars… Like I said, we won’t mention it.
