Weenie Roast: Japanese Food Art That Pushes The Boundaries Of Good Taste
We couldn’t really evaluate the usability of this site to any great extent (JF’s three-year study of Japanese in college having not survived intact the last 14 years). But it really deserves mention anyway - as an impressively populist (and opportunistic) addition to the pantheon of food sculpture.
Who would have thought that you could make a koala or a sunflower out of hot dogs? Not us, for sure. Our favorite little tidbit, however, has less to do with the animal sculptures than with the first word on the site, in red, on the top left. It transliterates as “weenie.” Which is excellent. I can’t quite imagine, e.g., Oscar Meyer going with that particular piece of slang. But perhaps I underestimate them, given this vehicular promotion.
